Since its debut two years ago, the SQ2 has made a name for itself as a car full of character. This is a dynamic compact SUV for the individualist who appreciates independent design, high utility value and dynamic handling. The main numbers speak for themselves: 0 to 100 km / h in 4.9 seconds, a top speed of 250 km / h and an average fuel consumption of just 7.7 liters per 100 km (30.5 US mpg).
When automakers put out something small and sporty that doesn’t target US coastlines, we usually complain about the fact that we won’t see it in the US. But thanks to the sheer number of SUVs in recent years, another sporty crossover seems a little too much. So we had no problem with the whole world owning the Audi SQ2 2021.
What will change in 2021?
The single-frame grid is slightly lower and, unlike the square blades before the facelift, has a polygonal pattern. The horizontal bar that was used to cross the bumper under the grille has been removed to be replaced with a more hexagonal plastic trim. Overall, the SQ2’s face looks more muscular and almost frowns. LED headlights are standard, but you can upgrade to the Matrix LED cluster.
Audi informed us that the S-Sport suspension of the SQ2 has been changed so that the performance crossover is 20 millimeters closer to the ground. The steering ratio has been changed for a more agile response. This means additional agility and calm in tight corners.
The interior of the Audi SQ2 2021 retains the aesthetic lines of the brand’s other S model. In this way, dark colors dominate. The roof is black and the door panels have a new material that is very pleasant to the touch. The door frame is illuminated with the S logo. The pedals and footrests are made of stainless steel.
When the engine is started, a certain animation S is displayed on the screen. The Audi Virtual Cockpit is standard. You can choose between the standard combination of fabric and leather for body work, fine nappa leather and combination leather and Dinamica. The latter is a microfiber material made from fabric and recycled PET bottles with a suede look and feel that has replaced Alcantara.
The 2.0 TFSI draws power from a capacity of 1,984 cm3 and is a sporty all-purpose machine. It is installed in many Audi models – in the SQ2 it delivers 221 kW (300 PS) and 400 Nm (295.0 lb-ft) constant torque over a wide range between 2,000 and 5,300 rpm. The four-cylinder turbocharger has excellent throttle response and the sound becomes fuller as the speed increases. This is partly due to a cover on the exhaust system.
2.0 TFSI has several advanced technologies for performance and efficiency. The Audi valve lift system (AVS) switches the exhaust valve lift between two stages as required and thus optimizes the charging cycle, especially in the lower engine speed ranges: an increased exhaust gas flow to the turbocharger ensures an agile and powerful reaction.
